Forensic Medical Examiners Clinical
Emergencies Course
28th & 29th April 2007
Cleveland
The course has been decided with the needs of the
Forensic Medical Examiner in mind. People detained in custody may be
acting abnormally due to illness, or intoxication or both. They may be
intent on concealing both the quantity and the nature of the
intoxicant. They may not be aware of what has been taken. They may have
sustained injuries before they were detained, or during the arrest
itself. They may be prone to adverse events as a result of cardiac
stimulants or respiratory depressants.
It is this complex clinical environment in which medical
and surgical emergencies can present with little warning. The actions of
the custody officers and their medical support are critical in
determining the nature of the outcome.
The course is presented by experts in pre-hospital
emergency care and the Faculty includes a Doctor with Prison Medical
Service experience as well as teaching pre-hospital care world-wide. We
also have Custody Nurse with extensive resuscitation experience in both
Emergency Departments and the pre-hospital arena. The training is
practical and uses state of the art manikins that can provide changes in
clinical signs and also allow procedures to be performed.
The course will cover airway emergencies, suspension
asphyxia, cervical spine management, medical emergencies, as well as
looking at extrication from custody suites and resuscitation in transit.
The cost of the course is £550 (plus VAT).
