Expedition Medicine
Future course dates are:
29th April to 1st May 2006 Increasingly British Emergency personnel are responding to disasters in the Third World or are acting as expedition medics. Their training is designed to enable them to transfer the sick and injured to a secondary care facility. It can leave them unprepared for dealing with the problems that can beset any group on an expedition. This course was originally designed for expedition leaders of the world renowned Brathay Exploration Group and is accredited by the Royal Geographical Society, the Mountain Leader Training Board and the Royal Yachting Association to name but a few. The three day residential course is held at the new Brathay Exploration Group Trust Field Quarters a mile from Ambleside under the care of Orion Training Ltd with Eventmed UK Instructors. The syllabus requires a minimum of First Aid at Work (HSE) or equivalent, but even G.P.'s who have attended the course have found it valuable. The course has been attended by United Kingdom Search & Rescue Team members from two counties. The course assumes that in the field there will be some form of communication with medical advice but evacuation may be difficult and could be delayed for at least twenty four hours. This intensive and action packed course has been run for the last seven years and is offered for £296 inclusive all meals. This outstandingly low price is possible because accommodation is in four person dormitories and participants will be expected to provide their own sleeping bags or bed linen.
