Dental Practice Emergencies
The public see Dental
Practices as a health care facility. In an emergency they will go and
ask for help. They see a
Dental Practice as a place of anxiety as well. Fear can be an irrational
addition to any dental treatment. Fear releases catecholamines such as
Adrenaline into the body. The heart beats faster, the vessels constrict,
and acute coronary syndrome can be precipitated. Fear can also bring on
asthma or an epileptic convulsion. People can become ill at the dentist,
or turn to the dentist because they are ill.
Undergraduates are taught to
deal with these emergencies and most regions now facilitate Post
Graduate refresher training in resuscitation. Eventmed UK Ltd recognises
the difficulties of dental practice but also acknowledges its strengths.
One of the Directors, Vic Calland, comes from a family of dentists. This
course is realistic, but practical, and leaves professionals and
administrative staff acting as a team to ensure the safety of the
patients in their charge.
A three hour training
session looks at Basic Life Support (Resuscitation Council 2005
Guidelines), and at common medical and traumatic problems that may be
thrust upon the Dental practice
The cost is £ 280 & VAT for
up to ten persons. All attendees receive a certificate of attendance. Up
to four Dental surgeons or nurses may upgrade to a certificate of
competence for £20 extra.
