Emergencies in General Practice

This very popular four hour course can be provided at an individual General Practice Surgery for doctors, nurses and receptionists to provide a realistic in house training, or alternatively, if sponsored by a Primary Care Trust or Pharmaceutical company can accommodate up to 40 participants at an appropriate venue.

Comprehensive course notes are provided and Basic Life Support skills are practised with just two participants per manikin with each person allocated their own face mask for maximum hygiene.

Initially the whole group is taught safety and scene management, and then proceed to Basic Life Support. After this the group is split. The Receptionists are taught how to manage the emergency call, how to deal with the choking child and Paediatric Basic Life Support. They then finish with the management of bleeding and “clearing up the aftermath”.

Meanwhile the doctors and nurses are taught further airway skills, the use of oxygen, intravenous access, with techniques for infants, and introduced to the Automatic External Defibrillator.

Several PCT’s have already used the course and it is highly rated. The course costs £52 for doctors and nurses and £35 for non-medical staff. Minimum number is eight, maximum number is forty. Add VAT at 17.5%
