One Day Refresher Courses for 2009 at Uttoxeter

October 10th

The training requirements for RMO's has been changed recently. All RMO's who are not employed for more than 4 clinical sessions per week in the NHS must undertake and be assessed on this course annually. All RMO's who offer ATLS as their sole qualification for being an RMO must also provide evidence of successfully passing a BLS & AED course every two years and must attend this course at least once between ATLS courses. BLS & AED assessment is incorporated into the one day course.

This will be held at Uttoxeter racecourse and will consist of four realistic scenarios for teams of four. In each scenario one doctor in the team will take the lead, but the actions of the others will also be assessed. The scenarios will be located anywhere within the racecourse that casualties may be expected to be found. At least two scenarios will be on the course itself and therefore appropriate clothing should be worn. In the trauma scenarios the casualties will be manikins that bleed and can be cannulated. The blood is designed to wash out of clothes but the manufacturers do not guarantee this for all materials, so do not wear your very best outdoor gear! Each scenario will then be evaluated and lessons learned. It sounds frightening, but we intend this to be a positive learning event that builds and does not destroy confidence.

The price of the course is £250 (plus VAT) per person
